Weekend and Fourth of July Events in Naples Florida

It’s almost weekend again and time to choose some fun events to attend. Not only is summer in full swing, but this week we are celebrating Fourth of July! Since it’s in the middle of the week, this post includes events happening from June 29th through July 4th. Do you know that sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was commissioned to design a sculpture to commemorate the centennial of the Declaration of Independence? The statue was named “Liberty Enlightening the World” and was a joint effort between the United States and France. In transit, the Statue was reduced to 350 individual pieces and packed in 214 crates. The Statue was reassembled, in four months, on her new pedestal. On October 28, 1886, President Grover Cleveland oversaw the dedication of the Statue of Liberty in front of thousands of spectators.

My grandfather arrived at Ellis Island nearly 50 years later. I can’t imagine the fear and excitement of a 16 year old arriving in a new country and not speaking the language or having any money. He worked hard in his new home and thrived. We are truly fortunate to live in the land of opportunity.  And, lucky for you, there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate that freedom below.
